According to the government information disclosure report of Shitai County Forestry Bureau on April 12, 2020, on April 18 and 19, for two consecutive days, the video materials of wild animals "hog badger" and "Reeves's muntjac" filmed by infrared cameras set up in the protected area by Guniujiang Protection Station in our county were broadcast on the "Secret Eyes" column of CCTV-1 comprehensive channel (CCTV-1) during prime time (18:54).
Guniujiang Nature Reserve was established in 1982 with the approval of the provincial government. Due to its superior natural conditions, rich species, complete ecosystem and little human influence, it has typicality in type and representativeness in region. In 1988, the State Council approved Guniujiang as a national nature reserve of forest and wild animal types mainly based on ecosystem. The reserve is located at the junction of Shitai and Qimen counties, with a total area of 6713 hectares, including 2054 hectares of core area, 1472 hectares of buffer zone and 3187 hectares of experimental area. The area of the reserve located in Shitai County is 3367 hectares, including 1091 hectares of core area, 1045 hectares of buffer zone and 1231 hectares of experimental area. Guniujiang is listed as "China's priority protection ecosystem" by the "China Biodiversity Conservation Action Plan" due to its rich species and many endemic species, and belongs to China's "priority protection area of forest ecosystem".
Since the establishment of the Guniujiang Nature Reserve, the forest stock volume has increased from 267,000 cubic meters at the time of establishment to the current 493,000 cubic meters. The forest coverage rate has risen from 89% to the current 97.96%. At present, there are 1,484 species of wild plants belonging to 712 genera and 176 families and 320 species of wild vertebrates in 87 families and 31 orders known in the reserve. Compared with the first scientific investigation in 1983, the number of wild plant species and wild vertebrate species has increased by 274 and 48 respectively. The protection effect is very remarkable.
