Toxicodendron succedaneum is a deciduous tree or small tree of the Anacardiaceae family, reaching up to 10 meters in height. Its branchlets are thick and hairless, with large terminal buds that are purple-brown in color. It has odd-pinnate compound leaves which are alternate.
