Carpinus viminea is a large tree of the Betulaceae family, with a height of 10 - 20 meters. Its bark is dark gray. The leaves are thick and papery, oblong or ovate-lanceolate, with the apex acuminate or caudate-acuminate, the base cuneate-rounded, rounded and sometimes slightly cordate, sometimes slightly unequal on both sides, and the margins with irregular double serrations.
The bracts of the fruits have lobes at the base on both the inner and outer sides. The middle lobe is semi-ovate-lanceolate. The inner margin is entire, rarely with sparse fine teeth. The outer margin has coarsely dentate teeth, less often with indistinct wavy teeth. The lobe at the inner base is ovate, and the lobe at the outer base is nearly equal to it or smaller and dentate. The nutlets are broadly ovoid.
