Bi Qiang of the Ming Dynasty (from Shitai) served as the minister of the Ministry of Household Affairs in the capital. One day, Emperor Shenzong of the Ming Dynasty suddenly visited Bi Qiang's residence and requested to have lunch at his house. Bi Qiang was an honest official and couldn't offer any good hospitality. So he asked his wife to make the "pot" from their hometown to entertain the emperor. Unexpectedly, after eating it, the emperor greatly praised it. Since Bi Qiang's wife had been granted the title of first-rank madam by imperial mandate, and this dish was cooked by the madam herself, the dish was therefore named "first-rank pot".
