The first day

The Guniujiang scenic area in Shitai County, Anhui Province is a national comprehensive nature reserve mainly based on forest ecosystem approved by the State Council in 1988. It is called the "green natural museum" by ecologists. In 2010, it was awarded as a national 4A-level scenic area. In 2019, it was selected as a summer tourist destination in Anhui Province. In 2021, it was selected as the first batch of forest-based health and wellness bases in Anhui Province.
The main peak is 1727.6 meters above sea level and is the third peak in southern Anhui Province. Because of its mountain shape, it resembles a Gu Niu descending from the sky, so it is named Gu Niu descending. The total area of Gu Niu descending is 6,700 hectares. Its strata is ancient, the climate is superior, the mountains are high and the forests are dense, and there are few people. It preserves relatively complete natural forest vegetation. It is one of the important typical areas of the mid-subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest belt in the eastern part of our country. Here, the tourism resources are extremely rich, the biological species are wide, the flora composition is complex, and the ecological relationship is coordinated. At the same time, the dangerous peaks and deep ravines in the area, strange pine rocks, smoke clouds and waterfalls, the natural landscape is very magnificent……
The [Yan Family Ancient Village], descendants of the famous hermit Yan Ziling in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Here, ancient trees reach into the sky, the sound of pine waves is continuous, and streams flow murmuringly. Huizhou-style residential buildings and ancestral halls are hidden among them, presenting a scene of "Cloudy trees merge by the village, and people live in a painting." This natural pure land, within the simple folk customs, is permeated with the tranquility and purity that urbanites are desperately searching for. There are well-preserved ancient residential buildings, ancient mills, ancient ancestral halls, Candle Peak, Lover's Valley, Four-tiered Waterfall, etc. in the village. Hiking in [Longmen Grand Canyon], there are crocodiles in the river show and the "Longmen Pool" with mythological colors. The pool water is as green as jade. The canyon is deep, the ecological corridor is full of wild charm, strange rocks are everywhere, and ancient trees are like covers. Visit [Ciyun Cave], a 4A-level scenic spot in the afternoon (touring time is about 1.5 hours).
5 kilometers from the county seat, adjacent to the provincial scenic spot Ciyun Cave. The earliest record can be traced back to the fourth year of Zhonghe in the Tang Dynasty, with a history of about 2000 years. It is known as the "Huizhou-Raozhou thoroughfare". The Draft History of the Qing Dynasty also calls it the "Huizhou-Raozhou thoroughfare". Due to its steep terrain, it has been a place contested by military strategists since ancient times. Many large-scale battles have occurred here. The most talked-about ones are the several major battles between Zeng Guofan and the Taiping Army during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period. The famous allusion of "losing battles repeatedly but still fighting on" in Zeng Guofan's Family Letters happened here.
